Style Jonny's style ranges from mellow folk to raw aggressive rock. Using various techniques he has come up with a unique style that is unlike anyone else. One can expect the rich sounds of folk guitar, with the intricate technique of classical finger picking, with the emotional energy of the blues and dashed with rock overtones. See Jonny's influences below to really see what types of styles appear in his playing. Musical Background Jonny's musical studies started in 1984 with the violin. In 1989 he purchased his first guitar. He is primarily self taught, however attended classical guitar lessons as a senior in high school and freshman in college. He was also a music theory student, and a member of Mary Washington's Jazz Ensemble. Jonny's professional career started in 1994, playing mostly coffee houses and bookstores. He has been a regular performer at Borders Books, Caribou Coffee, and other venues throughout the greater Washington, DC Metro area. Jonny started songwriting in 1992 and has received regular airplay on WMWC (Mary Washington College Radio) in Fredericksburg, Va. Equipment Jonny B predominately plays a Taylor 714C with Elixir strings. He also plays a 1975 Gibson L6-S deluxe using a Reverberocket from Ampeg. He is currently playing guitar in 1LUV, a Rockville, MD based R&B band. Influences Jonny B's influences range from various artists spanning a number of art forms. From rock artists such as Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix and Pearl Jam; to Blues artists such as B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and Stevie Ray Vaughn; To Folk artists such as Nick Drake, Mark Kozelek and David Gray. Other influences include classical guitarists like Christopher Parkening, Frenador Sor and Andre Segovia. Jonny has blended all these influences to come up with an original, unique sound. Biography Jonny B was born Jonathan Abelson in 1975 at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Shortly after, his family moved to Frankfurt, Germany for a three year stay. In 1979, Jonny's family moved to Dayton, Ohio. He spent most of his childhood in Dayton, OH. In 1990 he moved to the DC Metro area with his family to Woodbridge, VA. There he finished high school. Jonathan attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksbrug, VA where he received a BA in Sociology.
