简介

From So Far Away was written, recorded, and produced by recording engineer Neville Pearsall starting in 2010 and completing in early 2013. Each song was allowed to develop and grow into a unique blend of style and arrangement utilizing the talents of the local musicians and friends that came out to the Port Townsend WA area for other concert and teaching appearances. The songs feature Seattle jazz great Jay Thomas on trumpet, sax and flute, Danny Barnes on banjo on the title track, Orville Johnson on lap steel on the second track, local Port Townsend first call favorites Tom Svornich on drums and George Radebaugh on organ and piano on most tracks. All guitar and bass is by Neville Pearsall. Pete Lack contributed organ on several tracks and vocals and keys. Jack Dwyer is on banjo and mandolin. Jon Parry is the fiddle player. A fine selection of local talent filled in all the rest of the parts. The songs are upbeat in a variety of styles including horn based rock, americana, bluegrass, jazz and jam band. Song notes: 1. A Fine Selection of Dangerous Things - It might be guns and bombs, it might be books. 2. Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge - Arriving Brooklyn or Manhattan, your choice. 3. From So Far Away - My answer is yes to all the questions asked in this song. I had a dream where i was singing one verse of this. The rest of the details came out quickly one afternoon about 6 months later. 4. A Preference for the Good - I think I started here in this collection of songs. Also known as A Preference for the Good Stuff. 5. Behind My Mind - This is played with a short cut open low E capo that makes a sort of instant DADGAD tuning with a twist. This song is in 6/8 with a few measures in 5/4. Sometimes too much is just enough. 6. 40 Degree and Raining - My Northwest theme song. If you have lived here then you will understand. This uses the electric 12 string I designed and built with fret/finishing help from Steve Grimes 7. The Lucky Ones - This is a relaxed warm afternoon, I call it stroll and roll. The title is from Long John Silver. Like the Grateful Dead, "them's what dies, they be the lucky ones" 8. Surfing With the Dolphins - I know a few people that have done this. Dolphins are the true champion surfers. The acoustic guitar uses a open low E capo on the 4th. fret 9. Breaking Through - The Sun is breaking through and our troubles are fading.. 10. My Favorite Habits - We all have our favorites. This features the electric 12 string. 11. The One - This one is for my wife, Iris. My most pop attempt at 3 minutes, I could make a 45 rpm single. 12. Increasing Gravity - They say gravity is increasing, sometimes I feel the pull more. The acoustic guitar uses the short cut open low E capo on the fifth fret. 13. Walking Home - The full concept is walking home after a good night on a nice morning. A little foggy at first and then everything becomes clear. This uses the short cut capo on the 4th. fret. 14. Three Eyed Dog - In another dream, I saw a dog and he looked up at me with 3 eyes and smiled. I woke up. 15. The Coyote's Reply - I picture this as a soundtrack and we are driving through the high desert or perhaps on the old train heading west. 16. Up Under - I've been down under, so relatively I live up under. I try to stay up.
