Tart Vandelay began in May of 2014, while core members Katie Halligan (vocals) and Martin LoFaso (guitar) were students in Boston. A musical couple who began dating in 2011, they did not begin to create together until three years later. Seeking to create a unique and eclectic blend of their influences, they wrote songs in their free time and started performing at open-mics around the city. After finishing school, they moved back to their hometown of Rochester, NY and began recording and performing in earnest. In their first year performing, the two covered ground in the Northeast and Canada, including Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton, Burlington VT, Ottawa, Boston and New York City. Networking through the Rochester music scene allowed the couple to meet bassist Stephen Petoniak and drummer/percussionist Christopher Dubuc-Penney, who joined the group in May of 2016. As a full quartet, the group has recorded its debut release “Frontier Pioneer”, a 4 song EP featuring an assorted sampling of the groups varied sound. Released on September 30th 2016, the EP is available on all streaming services and digital platforms, and also as a limited CD release.
