简介

Dorothy has recorded five music albums, dated from 1991 to 2013*. Her very latest recording, right on the heels of her epic lullaby CD (“Sweetly ‘Neath the Moon”) is "Dorothy Zerbe and the Savage Beast String Band Live at Mt. Morris", due to be officially released sometime in February 2014. Although Dorothy’s music is not written in bluegrass style, she hand-picked her band members from among her bluegrass-playing friends, for a concert given through the Black Hawk Folk Music venue in Mt. Morris, WI. At Dorothy’s request, they set out to learn a whole concert-load of her original songs, plus some of her favorite covers. The Savage Beast String Band is George Doty on banjo and guitar, Ernie Greenwood on mandolin, Dennis Krempien on upright bass, and Dorothy Zerbe on lead vocal, guitar, ukulele, piano and kazoo. George, Ernie and Dennis also lend their voices on several numbers. Special guests at the concert event and ultimately on the recording, are Anita Zerbe, voice and kazoo on “Tonight You Belong To Me” and Stephen Zerbe, percussion on “Carey”. Dorothy Zerbe songs are about nature, family, friends, dogsledding, cats, love, life changes and emotions of every color. Her training includes a lifetime of influence from the classical, jazz and sacred/spiritual genres, with a great big dose of folk and pop from the 60’s and 70’s shaping her guitar, voice and keyboard skills. Her voice is soothing, strong and true, a pleasure to listen to. Typically performing solo, accompanied by her own guitar, ukulele or piano, the addition of the Savage Beast String Band makes for a very energetic and fun sound that will keep you humming the singable melodies in your head all throughout the day. Dorothy performs at coffeehouses, folk festivals, yoga classes, nursing homes and concerts. She especially loves children, and her ability to connect with people of all ages makes her a prime candidate for performances raising funds for humanitarian causes. She has a long career history as a liturgical/church musician in Episcopalian, Alliance, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Methodist and Catholic settings. She is a lifelong freelance musician and private teacher of guitar, ukulele, voice and piano. * “Lands Where I Live” - 1991 – a children’s cycle of songs describing our emotions as lands that we visit “A Long Way To Go” - 2001 - Solo Dorothy originals “Rooted and Free” - 2006 – Solo Dorothy originals – includes the popular “Love Alone” and “Made of Stone” (or The Granddaddy Song) “Sweetly ‘Neath the Moon” - 2013 - Lullabies that Dorothy learned from her parents and grandparents, combined with other songs she learned to sing to her own children and grandchildren.
