简介

“.... Watching The Good is like having the ocean in a jar, their music has an innocence infused with power, that is beguiling in its intensity". Alan Jeff, Matmata Media Background Current members Heather Barnes and Gareth Hudson formed The Good in 1999. The pair met while undertaking Bachelor of Music degrees at Newcastle University Conservatorium of Music, where Heather studied classical double bass and Gareth studied classical piano. From the beginning, Heather and Gareth's song writing was highly commended. Gareth received recognition through the success of various bands that he performed with and wrote for, including taking out the grand prize in the Mattara Rock-Fest with 'Reverend Sam' (1997) and reaching the grand final of the national 'Rock Eisteddfod Band Challenge' with "EDGE". Heather spent most of her teenage years playing with 'Silent Scream', who were finalists in the prestigious 'Sydney Youth Rock' Competition (1996), and she was also singled out for the 'Encouragement Award' at 'Mattara Rock-Fest' (1996). Between 1999 & 2004 The Good wrote and produced a 5 track E.P “True What They Say” and two albums titled “TheGood” and “Move Along”, selling out of all releases and creating a following in the Newcastle and Sydney areas. The Good arrived in England in 2004 ready to showcase their material and tour the country. The tour included performing at: • D&G's 2005 International Men's Fashion Show in Milan • Liverpool's International Pop Overthrow Festival • Richmond Live • The Blakey Ridge Music Festival • The Sunderland Waterfront Festival • The Cavern (Liverpool) • The Edinburgh Fringe Festival Other highlights during 2004-2005 included being nominated for the PRS Atom Award and receiving an ABC Radio Music Award for their song "Miss You". 2006 has seen The Good perform in major venues in, Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne and the National Folk Festival in Canberra. They have also written a rock opera titled "The Shining Isle" - which they will perform in at The Civic Playhouse, Newcastle, Australia in October 2006. The bands touring schedule will see them returning to the UK in July 2006 and all over Australia from late August onwards. Both tours coinciding with the release of their new album “51 Squares” “51 Squares” introduces The Good's new line up of Jae Nelson on drums and Chris English on piano and hammond organ. Jae met Heather and Gareth during his schools annual band camp whilst meandering his way through the intricacies of High School. When Heather and Gareth returned to the land of OZ in late 2005 there was Jae looking for any opportunity to play with the band he had looked up to for so long. A few jams and many conversations later, Jae was asked to join the band. Jae now splits his time between pursuing his academic degree as an Audio Engineer through SAE and being the rhythmic backbone for The Good. Chris is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Music, majoring in piano performance, and a double major of music technology at The University of Newcastle, Conservatorium of Music. Chris is also the current recipient of the Adamstown Uniting Church Organ Scholarship. “They played 2 sets lasting a total of almost 2 hours… I could have listened to them for at least another two hours, the passion they played with was evident, and the vocal harmonies were nothing less than beautiful. This wasn't rock and roll as we know it.. but it rocked in a very different and special way. I feel very privileged to have caught this performance from a very unusual band”. www.hullrocks.tk
