At the age of 16, he moved to Nashville, and began touring throughout the U.S. with the late Mel Street. Bill penned the classic ballad “Smokey Mountain Memories” contributing to hits for Mel Street, bluegrass star Larry Sparks and country music legend Ronnie Milsap. Then he went on to tour with Johnny Paycheck in support of his number one hit “Take This Job and Shove It”. Bill was a winner in the Chris Austin Song Writers contest at the Merle Watson Festival. He competed along with the likes of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. He also has been a headliner at the famous “Eno River Music Festival” in Durham. North Carolina for the past seventeen years.
