Barbudos take you to a time when music was made with friends, with minimal resources and whatever equipment was on hand, forging tunes you want to spin and spin and spin again. In an age when most bands are churning out spit-shined product, Barbudos supplies only the spit. The good kind of spit—the kind you used to hold sh*t together as a kid. It’s not old school, but unschooled. Rootsy originality comes not from knowing the rules and breaking them, but from a complete lack of knowing the rules. The sound is unpolished, undeniably catchy, and infiltrated by hooks. Jagged, rusty, unfailing hooks. November 2nd marks the release of Barbudos debut self-titled LP. Ten songs ranging in style from heavy-handed sinister rock, to outlaw country, to indie pop. The strong, eclectic collection of tunes, bridged by surf trem guitar tones and a back-to-basics blues/rock feel, landed them three nominations at the 2013 Niagara Music Awards, from which they took home Best New Band. The debut album release will be followed by a line-up of shows in Niagara and Toronto.
