Israeli-Mexican guitarist and composer Ilan Bar-Lavi is quickly becoming one of the most distinguished and exciting young musicians of his generation. Ilan is receiving worldwide recognition as a unique improviser, composer and bandleader with a fresh, original sound. His music is deeply rooted in Jazz , Mexican Bolero, Middle Eastern tradition flavored in a Pop/Rock presentation, that can only described as “…the new Jazz internationalism”. (Mercury News)

During the summer of 2009 Ilan released his highly acclaimed debut album entitled “Bliss”, featuring his closest peers, saxophonist Matan Chapnizka, pianist Victor Gould, bassist Haggai Cohen-Milo and drummer Jeffrey Fajardo. Bliss features all original compositions as an exciting and emotional recording that represents the “Jazz internationalism” to come. On stage it is obvious that what the audience is witnessing is a one-of-a kind experience. During his performance, music and energy surge through him with accents shouts and claps that captivate the crowd in a unique way as he takes them through a personal musical journey.

Ilan Bar-Lavi, in his young career has culminated credentials of a person twice his age performing on bandstands such as the Blue Note (NYC), Yoshis (Oakland, CA), The Jazz Bakery(LA), Kuumbwa (Santa Cruz, CA) and Dazzle (Denver, CO), as well as touring extensively throughout the United States, Mexico, Israel and Europe. As an active sideman, Ilan has had the pleasure to record and tour with MTV Award Winner Ximena Sarinana, Arnie Lawrence, Magos Herrera, Zinco Big Band, Secret Architecture, the Bar-Lavi World Jazz Quintet and Chamin Correa. In addition he has also performed alongside some of his greatest mentors and other respected musicians such as Tim Ries and the Rolling Stones Project, Cindy Blackman, Paquito D'Rivera, Antonio Sanchez, Hal Crook, Bob Gulloti, Steve Turre, Jay Rodriguez, Myron Walden, and Darren Barrett.

In short, Ilan is consistently striving to push himself musically and spiritually to be the best musician and person he can be. He looks forward to what the future holds and the music and friendships that will be made along the way.
