简介
Following his Canadian Folk Music Award and his JUNO Awarded World Music Album of the Year, Comfortably Mine, Mancuso returns with DMG (Dominic Mancuso Group). A core group sound that drives his new multi-lingual compositions towards the very essence of a world culture. His desire to perpetuate the chemistry of the group and embrace its wandering spirit was captured on the Sub Urban Gypsy recording scheduled for its international launch May 25th at the 2014 Lulaworld Music Festival in Toronto. The idea of Sub Urban Gypsy was conceived during the recording sessions; but it was given birth when the group toured Italy in the summer of 2013. “A Sub Urban Gypsy migrates seeking human interaction to pleasure its soul. A performigrator of sorts, offering the very essence of a world culture- where people are the territory.“ (Dominic Mancuso). The journey of the Sub Urban Gypsies starts in Bologna, with Professor Elena Lamberti. She wanted to bring DMG’s infectious global sound to Italy, and introduce it to her colleagues at the University of Bologna. An expert in McLuhan studies and author of Marshall McLuhan’s Mosaic-University of Toronto Press, she felt the group was a perfect example of the world savvy musical product Canadian multiculturalism was producing. In the summer of 2013, Mancuso turned her invite into a nine city tour of Bologna | Florence | Rome | Pompeii | Salerno & in Sicily through Marina di Modica | Delia and Palermo. Typical of his indie artist history, he knew once in Italy, he could turn the opportunities into so much more. With his traveling musicians: Chendy Leon percussion Paco Luviano bass Tony Zorzi guitars Jerry Caringi B3 organ, accordion, piano and vocals; they laughed, danced, ate and drank with their Italian hosts. In return, they gave them musical moments that created a feeling of one world; no barriers; no divisions. Ripping through Florence, Rome, Pompeii & Salerno, the group lands in Sicily. This, the island of Mancuso’s forefathers, is where it all starts to become personal. Dominic drove the group into over drive, offering the audience a full dose of the music that garnered him a Canadian Juno and Canadian Folk Music Award for his world music. Upon returning home to Toronto, DMG debuted the Sub Urban Gypsy experience at Hugh’s Room on Sept 27th. Shortly after the September show, Mancuso was awarded the 2013 Spirit of Ontario Award for Arts & Entertainment from the National Congress of Italian Canadians. Excited about the response to Sub Urban Gypsy, the group prepares for 2014 by submitting to the artist call for proposals to the international European/Canadian project www.performigrations.eu. The project investigates the crucial themes of ‘immigration and identity’ through a multi-layered network project involving a great number of world renowned Canadian and European Institutions and Organizations. Mancuso’s music continues to garner international acclaim by being awarded a position as one of seven artists representing the involved cultural and artistic realities in Europe and in Canada: Athens, Bologna, Klagenfurt, Lisbon, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. These seven artists will form an international ‘creative team’ to implement the Performigrations art-installation through their combined artistic inputs. These artists will meet for the first time in Bologna, Italy, at the Palazzo Pepoli, the Museum of the History of Bologna, in occasion of the Performigrations’ Kick-off Meeting (May14-18, 2014). Afterwards, they will resume in residence in Montreal (October 2014), to create the content for the traveling art installation. This European/Canadian project will present all seven artists in various participating cities such as Vancouver-Toronto-Montreal-Lisbon-Athens-Bologna- Klagenfurt. Dominic and his group DMG, are scheduled to perform in (Lisbon Portugal in Dec 2015).
