简介
This album contains recordings of two composers of the early 20th century: Reinhold Gliere and Max Bruch, Reinhold Gliere's Eight Pieces, Op.39, originally written for violin and cello, are presented here in a new arrangement for violin and viola by Rita Porfiris. Gliere, a Russian composer and violinist, was born in 1875 and died in 1956. Although he was thought of as a "political" composer, his music is a throwback to the Romantic era and are an even blend of Russian nationalism and impressionism, with lush melodies and compelling rhythms. German composer Max Bruch was also thought of as a "throwback," His Eight Pieces Op. 83 are more reminiscent of Brahms and late German romanticism, than Schoenberg or even Mahler, whose 8th Symphony was composed in 1910, the same year as the Eight Pieces. Written originally for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano, the Miller Porfiris Duo presents the arrangement for Violin, Viola and Piano, with pianist David Westfall.
