简介
Friendly Fire Band presents its first full length feature album with Lion Art and Tomlin Mystic toe to toe, for an opus of revolutionary themes and cannabis activism on riddims crafted by the Friendly Fire Band. The Friendly Fire Band has been on the forefront of the reggae scene in Birmingham for five years, performing as a backing band for some of the UK's top singers and MCs including YT, Tippa Irie, Murray Man, Dawn Penn, and many more, as well as performing the material showcased in this album. This first album Balsall Heat', is a tribute to the area of Birmingham called Balsall Heath, formerly know as Sodom, until it was reclaimed by the community, and is now home of many musicians and families, but also the heart of the "Balti Triangle" which makes the area famous. Lion Art kicks off with the already classic "Legalize It", a heavy roots track revealing the virtues of Ganja with 101 reasons to legalize the herbs for both its physical curing capabilities as well as its socio-spiritual dimension. The "legalize" riddim has already been championed by Tippa Irie, YT and Murray Man - so look out for the vinyl releases in 2013. Badness, which was Lion Art's first single on the label, has been revamped with a whole new horn section for the album version, and appears on Balsall Heat as a version aswell. Welcome to Holland is the most anticipated as well as being by Lion Art's signature track, featuring his Fadda Lee, telling the tale of a journey to Amsterdam to smoke herbs legally - and a warning against the novice's enthusiasm which can lead to tricky consequences.. Tomlin Mystic has been on the reggae scene since the days of "Natural Mystic" - a popular radical roots band from the 80s - this militancy is shown in "Buffalo Soldier", on the premonitions Riddim, which speaks of slavery around the world. Despite the strong revolutionary spirit, Tomlin Mystic comes with two light hearted songs on this album. Inspecta Ganja is an uplifiting upbeat riddim and a big up to a popular TV series which nurtured the bands childhood. Dem A Jump, name checks areas of Birmingham and the UK and is a fast paced ska number with a horn-driven riddim which is a guaranteed party tune and a Friendly Fire Band favorite. Balsall Heat wraps up with four instrumentals from Friendly Fire Band - Tetris has been one of the foundation instrumentals that have bounced many an encore, as a communist russian anthem made famous for being included in a certain landmark video game, played in a reggae fashion with a balkan twist. The Melodica lead Premonitions dub finalises Balsall Heat with a trippy dub of last year's riddim series, Premonitions Riddim.
