This is my first ever CD called Bob Simmons Scrapbook #1. It is a compilation of "live" and studio originals, from the '70's to now that have never been released. In the 70's I was living in Sausalito, Ca, and played with the band from Hawaii called "IS" at the Boathouse next to Zack's (Margueritaville), from '69-71. We went on to open up the Orphanage in S.F.. We were followed there by Graham Central Station, Louis Gasca and Malo. I was on guitar, Sandy Bailey on Bass, David Scott on sax and flute, Mike Kramer on keys, and Gary Green on drums. A few bands after, the bass player, Sandy Bailey and I combined with a popular Marin County group called "An Exchange". It was comprised of Patty Parsons on vocals, Jack Schaeffer on woodwinds, David Ingram on keys, Johnny Rossiter on drums and Sandy Bailey on bass, me on guitar. We played at Gatsby's, Strawberry Joe,s, The Black Kettle and more in Marin, CA. The 1st 4 songs of this CD are live in Sun Valley Idaho at the Ram Bar where we played winter and summer for years around 76-79. The next 3 tunes are studio recordings from 1985 written by Bruce Williamson, who has played keys and woodwinds with famous keyboardist, Art Landy since 1976.. I recorded a song written by me and Ray Gardner about the Boxer, Sonny Liston. Ray had a brief stay in Vallejo and passed a few years ago. John Turk, music director, keyboardist and writer for Glide Memorial Church in S.F., played organ on this cut. John is a Vallejo H.S. grad, and was a classmate with Sly Stone. John has been with Glide for over 30 yrs.. Check out his 7 yr. old son, Miles Turk on YouTube, playing drums with the Glide Memorial Orchestra. There is also a song, "Its Never Too Late", written by my keyboard buddy since 1974, Herman Eberitzsch. Herman is a gifted, prolific songwriter, very much in demand around the bay area. My Vallejo song,"Georgia St. is Still On My Mind" is there with Wolfgang Wein on bass. He and his bass playing wife, Ariane, had started the Step Up music school a while ago. Wolfgang mastered this CD under his business, Wolftrack Audio, here in Vallejo. He managed to extract the only frequencies left in my old reel to reel recordings. By the way, I won 3rd. place at the Solano County Fair with "Georgia St." entered as a poem. The last cut is "The Sleeping Lady of Mt. Tamalpais" that we can all see lying down in the western horizon of Mill Valley. I wrote and recorded it in late 1970. Michelle Hendricks, daughter of John Hendricks of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, is one of the background singers. Steve Rubardt is on keys, Allaister Ingram on flute, Ralph Kolarik on drums, and Sam Schiller on bass. At the time, we all lived on the Russian River around 1980. Obviously, this CD covers a lot of dues. It took a lot for me to commit to a slice out of the pie of my life, but I am proud to have something completed. I chose to first plant my feet in the past so I can spring forward to the present without letting any of this music fade away. There will be follow up Scrapbook #2 and 3 as I resurrect the music from our start as The International Set in Hawaii in 1967, to I.S. in the early 70's, to IS and on through the years. I also plan to do a Hawaiian CD, Jazz Standards, and contemporary originals. Thanks for reading this ...Bob Simmons
