The enchanting tale of Antinoos, the young shepherd from Bithynia, loved and heroized after his death by Hadrian, has become, through the ages, a part of the World Cultural Heritage. This love story charmed and inspired great personalities through the ages, such as Marguerite Yourcenar and Fernando Pessoa, all of them approaching it from another perspective with a different dimension and interpretation. This is the reason that together with Dr. George Kakavas, Director of the Epigraphic and the Numismatic Museum, we decided to call for the contribution of musicians from all over the world with variant aesthetic and cultural backgrounds, to rearrange the trilogy, Encounter-Momentum-Lamentation, entitled “Antinoos: The Triptych of Love” that I have composed. 42 musicians responded to our invitation, and the 9 best arrangements accompany my 3 original pieces. Fivos Valachis INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY 2015 Every year since 1977, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has established the 18th of May as the International Museum Day (IMD), with the objective to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.” In 2015, the theme: “Museums for a sustainable society” has been chosen in order to celebrate the recognition of the role of museums in raising public awareness about the need for a society that is less wasteful, more cooperative and uses resources in a way that respects living systems. In this context the Epigraphic and Numismatic Museum chose to bring together history, myth, archaeology, literature, dance, song and music propounding as summital event the musical trilogy composed by the renowned and multitalented musician Fivos Valachis, entitled “Antinoos: The Triptych of Love” and inspired by the surpassing and tragic love story of Hadrian and Antinoos.
