Marcus Elliot - sax Michael Malis - piano Ben Rolston - bass Stephen Boegehold - drums Marcus Elliot is a saxophonist/composer/improviser/educator based in Detroit, MI. His compositions and improvising has been described by the New York Times as “Convincing and confident, evolved in touch and tone…”, and The Detroit Free Press has said that “Marcus Elliot represents next generation of jazz”. Marcus is the leader and co-leader of many different bands including The Marcus Elliot Quartet, Clockwork, BALANCE and Lanula. Marcus is the co-founder of the non-profit Polyfold Musical Arts Collective. He is also director of the Civic Jazz Band Youth Ensemble. "Sonic Refuge" is a compilation of compositions that have been performed by the Marcus Elliot Quartet. The group held a weekly gig at the Detroit jazz club called Cliff Bell's for the past 4 years, where they have been able to workshop their music. The songs that they were working on created a sonic space of refuge not only for those who were listening, but for the artists in the band as well.
