Customer Reviews *****An excellent album By Sally Cable This is Gary Rex Tanner and Mississippi Slim together again after a previously successful collaboration on Feel The Heat. Classy Women features thirteen tracks with all lyrics written by Tanner. His line-up includes Mississippi Slim taking all the guitar parts, Eric Bikales on keyboards, Bob Leatherbarrow on drums and Dave Raven on percussion. Tanner has all the lead vocals with backing vocalists Kin Vassey, Daisy Tanner, Mississippi Slim and Lauren Pacheco. Bikales' piano riffs punctuate Along Comes A Woman, a stylish country-blues track, while Up All Night features grunty acoustic slide guitar and gritty vocals telling the age-old story of a man's obsession with a woman. Long Night, a jazz-blues ballad, has some slick jazz progressions from Slim. Slim's dobro takes the lead over a rhythm somewhat reminiscent of Willie And The Hand Jive in Small Talk - a fun tune with light-hearted lyrics. Louisiana Blues features up-tempo honky-tonk piano and saxophone in a typical New Orleans style. The final track, Sidewalk Reunion, features mellow backing harmonies from the late Kin Vassey. Hard to categorize as it features blues, jazz and folk styles; nevertheless Tanner's clever lyrics combined with Slim's versatility on guitar shape it into an excellent album. *****The Blues trinity strikes one mo' time! By Cookie Holley It isn't very often that a single CD will have more than one big talent, but Gary Rex Tanner has hit that mark of excellence that breaks that score. Unlike many with egotistical interests who keep their acompanyment mediocre so their star shines bright, Gary provides his audience with the cream of the crop in entertainment. Not only is his talent one of the tastiest morsels in todays market, but combined with Mississippi Slim and the Kansas City Ripper, he is just unbeatable. Having had the pleasure of hearing all Gary Rex Tanner's CDs (and owning them all)I can say that this is by far one of the very best! His musical talent is only outweighed by his keen writting style. For my money Gary is one of the all time best in this area. I know this is a guy that is going places in a big way! He has his fingers on the pluse of today's issues and prsents them to us served on a platter of shinny silver doomed in glass, still keeping a sense of humor. This CD has it all. My favorite song is Long Night. It's one of those songs that gets in your head and won't go away. Smooth, easy and snappy, with a tune you can help but hum. Slim does a jazzy cross-over that really shows his diverse style. and Gary is at his best vocally with shades of an updated Leon Russell. If you like slide guitar, Slim is your man, there is no one better! The man will curl your toe nails, so you better take strong precautions before you listen. Did you say get down boogie? Then you must be talking about the Ripper! He will make a dead person get up and dance. The man is dangerous. They should be forced to put a warning label on this CD...."Product may prove fatal to those with weak hearts or minds". I lost 10 pounds listening. haha! Oprah, girl get on over here...no diets needed. :) Yes, it's the trinity! Gary Rex Tanner, Mississippi Slim, and Eric Bikales The Kansas City Ripper! If you don't have this CD, shame on you! Well I'm off to stuff my face now. I've got to put on some weight before I play it again...getting too thin, it's the only draw back. Cookie Holley bumpNgrind records
