It is a severe understatement to say that God supernaturally intervened in Jai Dowdy’s life and transformed this man from the inside out. His journey began over 16 years ago in 1999 in Rome, GA. He was a secular artist who had just signed with Pine Funk Records, a local label under the name Plus 1 where he had the opportunity to rap the hook for “Represent Rome” by Lady Threats. They were touring all over the southeast region. And then in 2000, an idea entered his mind that he would pursue a bachelor’s degree at Jacksonville State University. After he was done, he went back home to do music full time and released his first mixtape in 2004, entitled It’s Gone be Trouble Vol 1. Developing a little street buzz for himself, Plus 1 hired a manager and moved to Marietta, GA in 2006. He wanted to get closer to where he thought the road would be to lead him to the world’s idea of fame and fortune. Being a little closer to Atlanta, one of the music capitals of the world, he spent a full year studying the intricacies of the business side of the industry. And in 2007, Dowdy created Hilltop Entertainment –his very own record label company. Soon after, he released his second mixtape entitled Once Again, It’s On Vol 2 and ended up on V-103 doing the 6PM theme music for Gregg Street. Little did Jai know, he was nearing a crossroad where God was going to shift the foundation of his life. He was creating music, getting to see a side of the music industry not accessible in Rome, and was seemingly increasing in music clout. At the same time, however, differing life events caused his heart to yearn for a deeper life ambition. So, one day, his music manager invited him to Kingdom Church International in Rome, GA. When Jai heard the truth of God’s Word being brought forth at KCI, his heart strings were sounding off; nonetheless, he was not ready to make that turn yet. Since his father was a preacher, he understood that he was missing out on enjoying a relationship with the Heavenly Father. When the prodigal son came to himself, he was knee-deep in slop eating with the pigs. Dowdy can admit that he had not made it to this low place yet. His descent came not too long afterwards however. It was 2009 and he was living in Rome again, producing music. He released his final secular mixtape What More Can I Say? He rode the success of that cd for just a short while though because on Christmas at that end of that year, Jai's whole world plummeted. The mother of his three beautiful children took them away on that morning and he could not see them for a full year –some gift. He was absolutely devastated and began to drown the pain with alcohol and drugs. He no longer had a steady job or a permanent place to stay. He had definitely reached that low place where he had no choice but to look up and cry out to God. Early one morning, the voice of the Lord urged him to visit his mom. He did not go immediately but later that night while he was headed to party with some friends, that unction became real strong again. So Jai made a U-turn, literally! His Mom shared a Word that he can only describe as being sent straight from Heaven. Ephesians 3:20 was her prophecy –God was going to overwhelm his life with blessings. For one, she decreed that the children’s mother would have to give up all manipulative power over him. For another, his job and living conditions would stabilize. In fact, she declared that the very house they were standing in at the moment would be Jai's. However, the fine print--not his Mom's but the Lord's-- underneath this explosion of blessings was that he had to be in a spiritual position to receive it. Since it was a Wednesday night, his mom was headed to Bible study and Jai desperately wanted to go too. He told her to wait a while and he went back to his friend’s place where the party was going on. He gave it all back to them –drugs and all. They could keep it because he was going to church! When he left, his friends were laughing but Praise the living God; he has never returned! He joined KCI and Dowdy's life fast-tracked. In six months, all that his mom prophesied came true –six months! All praise, glory, and honor to God Almighty! The Lord blessed him with a new job and a new house. His mom’s husband bought her a new place and handed him the keys to hers –yes, the one they were standing in that night she gave the prophesy! He also won joint custody of his children! Won't God do it! As he settled into his new saved life, Jai automatically assumed that the musical side of himself was dead and buried. But what the Lord revealed during that time is that whenever He asks us to give up something in the flesh, He ALWAYS has something greater for us in the Spirit. One evening this born-again entertainer had the amazing opportunity to see gospel rapper T-Haddy in concert at church. He was able to hear this brother put the Word of God into beats and melodies that sounded just like the music he used to produce; except, to the glory of God and not to man. Dowdy's artistic fire was re-ignited and the journey was like the title of his secular mixtape – Once Again, It’s On! His message was the gospel of Jesus Christ and his target audience was now the world. It is absolutely Amazing to watch Christ transform someone’s life from the inside out in what seems like no time at all. He truly can do in ONE day what it takes man YEARS to do! God’s grace and truth took this man's heart’s passion and shifted its audience and purpose. The Lord also gave him a new music name to go by –Jai Plus 1. Since his life now belonged to God and His will, He gave up operating out of his own ability and goals. Close to the end of 2009, he was on the other side of the Cross, producing secular tracks. In February 2010, after accepting the Only bridge way to God, Jesus Christ Himself; Jai released his first Kingdom mixtape –Educational Muzik Pt. 1 The Foundation.   His dedication to music that used to build personal street credibility could now be utilized to give Jesus to the world through his testimony. And in April 2010, with the Tate Music Group, Jai Plus 1 dropped My Story…True Confessions. He was on fire with the Gospel message and soon after this album release, recorded Educational Muzik Pt. 2 The Intern mixtape. With each new production, his songs’ messages reflected personal growth. So, The Intern focused on subject-areas in which modern day teenagers struggled and that drew their attention away from God. Jai's passion for music runs deep but his desire to see the youth of this world snatched from the hands of the enemy and brought back to Christ strikes a much stronger chord within him. Between 2011 and 2012, he released an EP entitled “Message Muzik”, recorded and released his second album From Genesis 2 Revelations and, his third mixtape Educational Muzik Pt. 3 The Graduation. He marvels at how the Lord has used the three Educational Muzik mixtapes {The Foundation, The Intern, and The Graduation} to chronicle his musical journey and spiritual maturity. This same guy who lost his kids in 2009 was named National Father of the Year in 2011 and is considered a reputable expert on fatherhood. His beautiful wife, Miquela Dowdy, supports him as the Youth Pastor at Kingdom Church International where he feeds the message of the Gospel to the same target audience of his music. Teaching the teens allows Jai to expound on how much Jesus loves them and how much He wants to give them a new life. He is living proof of that fact. Now, in 2015, he can look at the pain of the past and thank God because he realizes that He wastes Nothing that we grow through in this life. He also changed his name yet again, to his real government name “Jai Dowdy”. And, as Paul in the Bible stated, he is certainly looking forward to the future. Dowdy is still producing music; in fact, he has signed a contract with Can You Hear Me Now. Around the globe, there are millions of people, youth especially, that are lost and hurting. He has made it his personal goal to get the only solution into their hearts –Jesus! Jai Dowdy is up for the challenge. Lehho go!
