Silence follows up their acclaimed debut with five tracks of dark pop and rock that dwindle along the framework of goth and nostalgic 80’s alternative, while still sounding fresh and vibrant. This has everything to do with the fact that Silence has catchy dark rock tendencies, a mesmerizing vocal talent in Tino Anglade, and pristine production from John Ashton of the Psychedelic Furs. Not that revered producer Carter William Humphrey should be overlooked for his stellar contribution to the moody opener “Only You and I,” but the pop happy glisten of “I Hear You Calling” and the similarities to Deep era Peter Murphy on tracks like “Deed” and “Blood for Gold” give credence that this band can write memorable songs while taking excellent direction from an alternative icon. Album closer “I Run” is a slight departure from Silence’s sound with its lofty male/female choruses, meandering guitar, and rat-a-tat percussion, but maintains the band’s mysterious appeal. The combined tracks serve as a brief and enjoyable collection by this rapidly maturing band to tide fans over until their next release. Enrapturing and endearing with its gorgeous melancholy, EP 2.0 hints that Silence has much yet to show us.
