Uniting Cultures through the Global Passions of Football and Song When Football United’s award winning film was launched in 2010, singer/song-writer Brian Elkington, approached us with a proposal to write a song to celebrate our force of uniting youth through football. We are proud and honoured to celebrate our partnership with Sydney FC by launching the song, Field of Dreams, at the 2013 Harmony Day match. About Football United® Football United® is a holistic, integrated and long term sports-based program which supports newly arrived groups, and plays a role in connecting across diverse communities offering opportunities to a wide range of young people in disadvantaged areas. Football United, based at UNSW, is a national and international leader in this space addresses sport for social change – goes beyond sport to impact health, education, engagement with community and positively affect interpersonal development. Although begun to address issues of humanitarian settlement and promote racial harmony, has engaged to reach youth in many socio-economically challenged areas. Football United began in 2006 with the goal of supporting refugee and newly-arrived young people and families in their transition into Australian society. The vision has evolved to become a program which combines a number of effective mechanisms for engaging and re-engaging young people with refugee experiences and disadvantaged youth into their communities, fostering their educational engagement and promoting cross cultural harmony.
