简介

With all my heart I thank God for helping me find my voice and for the privilege of being His instrument! My musical predilections have always been wildly varied. That's why it seemed perfectly normal for me to go from singing a touching ballad like "Separate Lives" to exploring the darker chambers of voice and story in "Night Moves". Here's a little backstory...I grew up in Kentucky with wonderfully quirky parents and a sister who was as outgoing as I was painfully shy, except when it came to music. My dad was a bluegrass/country fan, my mom loved R & B, my sister taught me how to rock, and my grandmother sang gospel hymns on her front porch...I loved all of it! At eighteen I started singing with various bands until finally joining a band where I met my husband, Greg Droman, an amazing guitarist/producer/engineer. After 5 years of playing clubs six nights a week / five hours a night, Joe Vitale, the drummer for Joe Walsh (James Gang and Eagles guitarist) pulled a few strings and got us on Walsh’s tour with Stevie Nicks. After a few weeks Stevie invited me to sing with her as well - I was stunned and thrilled! During the course of the tour we shared the stage with some amazing people: Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins. By meeting Kenny Loggins at a show I got to sing on the song "Footloose". After the tour Greg and I moved to Los Angeles where I was included in the making of Stevie's "Rock a Little" album. Some incredible events took place during that time. I recorded "Sorcerer" for the movie "Streets of Fire", sang on "Don't Come Around Here No More" for Tom Petty, and met the head of Atlantic Records, Doug Morris. Doug signed me to Atlantic just before Phil Collins turned in his "No Jacket Required" album for release. He had recorded “Separate Lives” but decided that it didn’t quite fit with the rest of his album. Doug, wisely feeling it would be great as a duet, somehow convinced Phil to sing it with me and found a home for it in the movie “White Nights”. Phil was so kind, even sent a cassette of some songs for me to consider for my first album. After "Separate Lives" I recorded two solo albums working with legendary producers Arif Mardin, Phil Ramone, and Pat Leonard, to name a few, but after the second album I felt oddly restless. Even though I was so grateful for the opportunities I’d been given, I questioned what I was really trying to say with my music. Time passed quickly as I searched my heart and navigated through a world of distractions, but what finally evolved is the absolute joy I've found in writing and singing songs of praise. I love writing lyrics that explore our human struggle to live in ways that honor God and the forgiveness we're given through grace when we slip. This may seem an odd turn to those who remember my music, but my hope is that you'll be touched by the music that fills my soul with love and gratitude. Thanks for listening and God Bless! Marilyn
