简介
The instrumental tracks have distinctive moods featuring the incredible guitar energy and skill of Rob Edwards, a Los Angeles studio musician and artist who formerly played with Larry Carlton, Jim Keltner, Carl Redle and Rick Lancelot in various bands including Eddie and the Showmen (surf band), Colours (Beatles-type music), Sky Oats (title song on surf movie Pacific Vibrations) and many others. Rob wrote all music, played all instruments except bass on these mostly instrumentals. His brother Rick (John) Edwards played bass and wrote lyrics to "Michael’s Little Island." The titles reflect the feelings of the songs. You must hear "Silver Slide" to understand. The next song is a tribute to Rob and RIck's Danish heritage, their mother's parents were from Denmark. "He Then Hammers" is also a nod to the title of a song "Hold The Heathen Hammer High" by the Scandinavian band TYR. Grenouille is "Frog" in French, and you will hear them singing in this one. Imagine the speed of communication if you fed Methadrine to Daffy Duck: hence "Methaduck"- a very speedy tune. "Saipan Threesome" could be a three-way conversation between guitars, or it could be memories of a Japanese lover on a beautiful remote Pacific island. Most of the songs were recorded in the Edwards family home in Palos Verdes, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. Instruments were input to a rack mounted system that included a Macintosh computer using ProTools. Incorporated into this mix was a 1959 Fender Delux amp and a Marshall Amp head, played on a vintage Fender Stratocaster, Telecaster, and Musicmaster bass, a Korg Wavestation Keyboard and a separate drum pad. All were run through synthesizers. Michaels’s Little Island was written by Rick (John) Edwards in the island of Saipan. It is about Saipan and includes a few lyrics in Saipan’s native language, Chamorro, and in Japanese. It has a reggae beat. Lead vocals are by Rick Edwards and backup vocals by Rob Edwards and Eddie Bertrand. Musical arrangement and guitar, drums and keyboard by Rob Edwards, bass by Rick Edwards. It was engineered by Eddie Bertrand and recorded in his home studio. The song was well-received in Saipan where it was played on the radio in 1990. The artwork on the cover upper right includes a piece from Rob Edwards. In addition to playing music, Rob was a very talented artist. The cover photograph is of Rick (left) and Rob (right) taken near the ocean cliffs of Palos Verdes, California. Graphic text ideas were from album covers of Elvis Presley and The Clash. This album is dedicated to Rob Edwards (1946-2001) and to Eddie Bertrand (1945 - 2012).
