简介

Singer/Songwriter, John Torres has released 'Songs From The Curbside Of A Small Town' in November 2004. Torres started writing songs in his first band Skip Five more than 20 years ago with the late Aldo Jones and a 16-year-old Skip Heller. After Skip Five, Torres formed Coup d'etat with writing partner Gabriel Antonini in 1982, which enjoyed relative local success in the early to late 80's. Torres and Antonini continue to collaborate on current projects, including some tracks on the latest release 'Songs From The Curbside Of A Small Town'. After Coup d'etat, Cathy James, former owner of rock n' roll club JC Dobbs, asked Torres to continue the Last Minute Jam which Torres was honored to take the torch that was given to him by Greg Davis, George Manney, Wally Smith and Michael Radcliff. Torres successfully ran the Tuesday Night Jams for a four year period. Around that time, Torres branched out and began writing with other songwriters such as Ezra Mohawk, and gave Torres his introduction to publishing which landed his first song signed to Peer Music. Torres got the opportunity to record his first solo EP through the help of Lou Lipshitz, father of Phil Roy. At this time, Torres teamed up with the legendary Peter Humphreys and released John Torres in '3 Flavors'. After completing '3 Flavors', Torres put his efforts into producing, booking, and promoting local artists through organizations such as Newtown Colony Arts Festival. Torres reconnected with former Coup d'etat member and Grammy Award Winning Producer, David Ivory. This got John his first songwriting credits on Ivory Productions release of Katie Drake's CD "Complicated" in the spring of 2000. Torres co-wrote 3 tracks on her 10 song CD, in which 2 songs received airplay on WXPN in Philly and several other radio stations across the country. At Ivory's studio, John got the opportunity to write and record songs with the legendary singer/songwriter/performer Bunny Sigler, which will be released at a later date. John also has 2 more writing credits on the 2004 release of Carla Gio's CD, About Time, featuring the song 'Watching You Walk Away', being played on Delaware's WSTW 93.7. You can find it on the radio's website in Hometown Heros. Since 1998, Torres began working on his first self-produced full length CD, 'Songs From The Curbside Of A Small Town'. It was a long and sometimes drawn out journey with many start and stops along the way. He has finally seen the light of his self-financed project. The new release has been a labor of love which includes the help of Philly rocker greats Greg Davis, Allen James and the A team rhythm section of Chuck Trese and Kjel Benner...not to forget a scattering of notable Philly & NJ locals including Joe DeLuca-engineer playing hammond organ and co-production, Hoagy Wing (percussion) Bobby Michaels (Sax) Brian McMahon (pedal steel and slide guitar) Phil Rizzo (of Smash Palace-bass guitar) Smokey Robison violin player Amy Weckesser and Dream(former Last Minute Jam Drummer). Throughout this period, John had connected with up and coming engineer and producer Brad Scheurer who established a state of the art recording studio in Haddonfield, NJ, Aqua Lounge Studios. Along with engineering, Brad has lent a hand at co-writing a couple of the songs. Together they have created the woodsy-rock sound that Torres has been working towards. At Aqua Lounge, John met up with Joe Lam, musician extradionaire, most notably known as the front man from Love Revolution. Also former band mate, Barry Morrison, has been there since the beginning who contributed to the songwriting, playing and creative input on Torres' CD. The CD titled, 'Songs From The Curbside Of A Small Town', features 9 tracks. The songs touch on political themes and growing up in the streets of a working class town.
