This debut release from Zephyrium takes you on a journey through impossible spaces, reforging the masterworks of the Western Art Music tradition with the infinite variety of sonic textures provided by modern synthesis. The exquisite vocals of Michelle Hache, a Juilliard-trained Soprano, intertwine seamlessly with soundscapes created by Derek Smootz, better known as the producer of Ambient/Chillout project Longing for Orpheus. The arias on the album include selections from the birth of opera ("Pur ti miro" from Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea) to the height of the form's popularity ("Addio del passato" from Verdi's La Traviata), in addition to selections by Mozart ("Porgi, amor" from The Marriage of Figaro), Delibes (the Flower Duet from Lakmé), and Humperdinck ("Evening Prayer" from Hänsel und Gretel). Other vocal forms from the Western Art Music canon are included in Art Songs by Rachmaninoff ("Vocalise" from Op. 14), Dowland ("Flow My Tears"), Caccini ("Amarilli, mia bella") and Fauré ("Les Berceaux"), as well as the "Pie Jesu" from Fauré's Requiem.
