Dennis Livingston: (Music) Boston songwriter Dennis Livingston offers an intriguing variety of original songs rooted in the sophisticated lyrics and story-telling tradition of American Songbook standards. In his catalog you'll find a touch of jazz here, a deeply felt ballad there, the sudden breakout of a samba or bossa, and pieces that draw on the styles of both the cabaret world and the 19th century art song. His work has appeared in numerous group shows, including four productions of the MAC-ASCAP Songwriters Showcase in NY, three of the New Songwriter Series at the NY Sheet Music Society, two Cabaret Songwriters Showcases presented by the Boston Association of Cabaret Artists, two Stop the Presses! put on by the Washington, DC, Cabaret Network, two Tru Faces Cabaret shows sponsored by Theater Resources Unlimited in NY and the Festival of New Vocal Music at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. His songs have been featured on albums by performers Chris Coleman, Lua Hadar, Robyn Spangler, Dane Vannatter and Nancy Stearns. He has collaborated with many New York composers including Ronny Whyte, Alex Rybeck and Karen Jacobsen. In Boston Bob has co-written with Harriet Goldberg, Dennis Livingston and Krisanthi Pappas. His most recent CD, “A Little Bit More: The Songs of Bob Levy & Jon Burr”, released in 2011 is a collaboration with Jon Burr and vocalist Lynn Stein. Bob’s debut CD, “Out In the Cold”, was released in 2006, “Me + My Best Friends” was released in 2008. Both CD collections on the SRM label featured vocals by Perry Danos. Bob’s third CD, “Off His High Horse” was released in 2009. “Fire In My Soul”, a CD of Bob’s country songs, recorded in Nashville. In 2007 “A Musical Celebration”, a highly acclaimed showcase of Bob’s jazz songs was presented at The Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York City. The same year ASCAP selected his song “Paris Without You” for their Emerging Jazz Writers broadcast series. In 2008 his songs were performed at the New York Sheet Music Society and in 2009 at the Cabaret Songwriters Showcase held at The Center for the Arts in Boston. In 2013 Bob was the featured songwriter at the three day Provincetown Cabaret Festival on Cape Cod. Bob's songs have also been featured on television programs such as Saving Grace, The Glades, Hung and Greek as well as in major films like You Again starring Betty White. His songs have been performed and recorded around the world. His CD's are featured on Pandora Radio as well as various jazz stations in the US.
