"in The Middle of a Kiss" is the third release by saxophonist Lew Del Gatto as a leader beginning with "Katewalk" in 1997, followed by "Heroes Volume 1" (Featuring the late, great saxophonist Frank Wess on four tunes).

In 2008 Lew, with his longtime friend and musical buddy saxophonist Bob Keller, recorded a tribute to saxophone legends Al Cohn and Zoot Sims entitled "To Al & Zoot, With Love."

On "In The Middle of a Kiss" Lew is supported by a stellar rhythm section of seasoned jazzmen who complement him perfectly while also contributing their own highly personal improvisations, specifically: Jess Green piano, Steve Brown guitar, Tony Marino bass, and drummer, Tom Whaley.

The tunes: The Gypsy - previously recorded by Charlie Parker in LA in 1946; Only Trust Your Heart was recorded earlier by Benny Carter and uses swaying Bossa Nova rhythms; How Long Has This Been Going On? was something Ben Webster played and is a great ballad; Not Me uses a Rollins flavored stop-n-go line; In The Middle of A Kiss is reminiscent of Zoot Sims who recorded at least three versions of this tune; So Danco Samba was arranged by Steve Brown and added authentic Brazilian flavor; Old Folks was inspired by Don Byas who played this in 1946 with the Basie band; Groovin in Kalamazoo was written by Del Gatto with the loose feeling of a Sonny Stitt-Gene Ammons hip shaking swinger; The Touch of Your Lips was written by R. Noble and projects a mood of intimacy; Chega De Saudade or No More Blues was composed by Jobim and Del Gatto picks up the tempo and puts it in a swing feel.
