简介

"Past Mistakes" is the CD that started, or rather, re-started Fishkill on the path it is currently on today. Although it is the "first" CD it is actually a chronicle of all the failed attempts to put forth new music up to this point, hence the name, "Past Mistakes." All of the tracks on the record were taken from earlier "releases" which were basically a series of mixtapes that were distributed by hand to personal friends at the time. All the music on the CD was recorded on a TASCAM Porta-One ministudio at various points in time starting from 1986. Although the recording quality is rather poor by todays standards, it chronicles the beginnings of the band's sound and the influences of the times. The basic Fishkill sound is there, however, and can be heard in the heavy delivery, the high-energy, even the forays into other musical styles are evident on this CD. The most successful single, "1982" is a quirky power pop ditty about not being able to keep up with the times. The heavy-handed "Existence"--the oldest track on the CD recorded in 1986--is a philosophical look at...existence! This track also featured a guest appearance of another personal friend, Frank Erickson, on lead guitar. "Circles" is a power ballad describing the monotony of everyday living, "The Box Speaks" is a commentary on the continous polluting and destruction of all the earth's resources. it is also the only Fishkill song to date that features a piano as the main rythm instrument. The early collections that these songs were taken from were recorded under the name "Chris Nelson and the Amazing 1 1/2." The project was renamed Fishkill in 1996. The collections were titled "Understanding the Art Of War," "A Dignified Term For Disgusting Behavior," and "Prescriptions For Social Disorder." The track "Holiday" was recorded especially for a party CD under the name Enik and the Sleestaks that was a collaboration between songwriter Chris Nelson and Ken Holcomb, another artist. Holcomb sings backing vocals on that track as well. This is the most recent song on the record, being recorded in 1999. It was also the last time any Fishkill music would be recorded on the ministudio. If you are lucky enough to have a copy of one of these early recordings, there are only about a dozen in existence. Should the band ever go national, you will have soething extremely valuable.
