简介
Uncle Sal (Salvatore Giansiracusa) is considered a Guitar-Synth-Virtuoso. This is his first all-vocal solo album. The album contains a variety of love, comedy, politics and fun. "Shh, Listen, Do You Smell Something?" is considered the "did that album actually happen?" album in Uncle Sal discography. This album came out of nowhere in the buildup anticipation for "Spaghettification". While 'Shh Listen' is a strange footnote in the Uncle Sal legacy, it offers a wide diversity in song genres. For instance, the album starts off with a comedy theme song sing-a-long, "Pizza 4 You", and then gets super-strange with "Dick Smoker", which contains an incredibly catchy hook that needs to be heard to be explained. It was a song based on a political argument Uncle Sal had with someone. Then the album takes a complete 180 shift to "Beth I'm Gonna Miss You" which contains a distinct harmonica reminiscent of a years past of the 60's, yet its not that kind of a song. The harmonica was a bizarre creation created with the GR-55. It's something that you can't quite put your finger on, it's familiar, yet new at the same time. Chris O'Brien (lead singer for Refuge and Cusa) then comes in to lend his vocals on "Pretty Girl", "I'll Be Missing You" and "On Your Way". "On N On" is a reggae-esque song with a great rhythm and catchy vocals. "You Really Got Me Going" may become a bar-jukebox and strip club favorite. The rhythm to "I Found Your Love" was a rhythm written in Uncle Sal's head in 1989 and he finally came across writing and recording it in 2009. "The guitar riff was always in my mind until i got around to writing it then." Next up is the political rock anthem "Crooked Politicians (Obama Your Mama)", with vague similarities to a Nickelback-esque type of sound. It is clear from listening to this song that Uncle Sal has equal distaste for all politicians, regardless of their political party affiliation. "Just Call Me" is a basic 80's rock tune. "I Ain't Wasting Away", is an ode to all of the old-timer guitar players who still play live shows. After that, we have "McKenzie Ann", a song written with Chris O'Brien's daughter in mind as she was graduating. (Note: Chris also wrote a song on this same topic featured on this album, "On Your Way") and Uncle Sal wrote "McKenzie Ann". Last we have "Michael Jackson Is Not Dead" to close the album. "Shh Listen ... Do You Smell Something?" is one of those albums that grows on you after the initial "did that just happen". The songs all have catchy hooks, fantastic intros, clever guitar solos, interesting sound effects from the guitar synth, and other memorable moments.
