简介

Renford was born to Claris Brown and Sherman Coleman in St Elizabeth. At the age of 3 his mother brought him to her home town, Kingston 2 – Rockfort a tough area where life wasn't easy. He was known in the community as Little Man as he was always singing and dancing. Influenced by DJ’s such as Ranking Joe, Ranking Trevor, Pupa Toyan and Brigadier Jerry, Little Man started to deejay from the age of 11. Attending local dances he would ask for “a sing” and they would gladly agree as he was just a little kid who wanted to perform, it was then that his name transitioned from Little Man to Little Ranks. At approximately age 15 he entered his first competition on Metro Media sound and claimed 1st prize. Then another competition at Count Ossi Center in Shantytown, Rockfort he claimed 2nd prize. By age 18 Puddy Roots took a particular interest in Little Ranks and became his mentor bringing him to dances to perform with him. He was later recorded by the infamous producers Sly and Robbie and Chris Stanley at Music Mountain Studios but nothing ever became of these songs as he had an opportunity to move to Canada and took it. By age 27 in Canada he created Getto Swing sound system with the idea of being a Canadian version of Youthman Promotions from Jamaica. His idea was a success as Getto Swing became one of the most popular sound systems in Montreal, Canada that had its own crew of local artists. However, Little Ranks knew if he wanted to be recognized as an artist himself, he would have to change his name as there were too many local artists with “Ranks” in their name. He changed his name to Junior Hugh after his grandfather Mashugh and entered the Montreal Francophone competition. He claimed 1st prize which was a 14 day tour in France where he performed in several cities such as St. Bruno, St. Malo and Paris. Upon his return he recorded J’t’equipe from the album L’accent Grave with Montreal French rapper Yvon Kreve. The album later topped Quebec sales and won best francophone album at the Canadian Music awards. Junior Hugh’s musical career was definitely on track until he was shot 6 times, and then everything went on hold. 2002 Junior Hugh moved to Toronto for a fresh start and gradually became familiar with Toronto’s music scene. He continued writing and practicing in his home studio and in 2014 released his first single Jus Love under his new name Syndrum.
