简介
Rashad thaPoet is an artist that literally changed his style and approach, yet it seems as if he was always breed to be an MC. Rashad is Nashville's most noted and highly esteemed spoken word artist, working with Southern Word and being an incredible actor. Rashad switched gears in 2011 with his "Return of the Mashairi", hip-hop release. The mixtape went on to garner much praise and acclaim, so much so that he did two more series under the same name. Rashad, who has sold over 20,000 cds as an indy spoken word artist, said that the transition to hip-hop was inevitable. Rashad has been performing with a live band since 2005, so of course on the night that I go check him out he has a drummer, keyboard player and sax player (all phenomenal) He opens the set with spoken word, and from there he takes off. Commanding our attention and not ever letting go. His set was full of energy and unlike some rap shows, I could hear and understand everything he was saying, even with the band. His articulation and consistency is something other artist should mimic. He engaged us and we gave it right back to him. After the show we talked about his new album "Soulville" a collection of ten songs dealing with revolution, love, hope, and as he states the main theme, the youth. His record dons a picture of the Hadley Park bandstand. Hadley was the first public park for African Americans in the United States. He has big shoes to fill, with such an amazing "tribute to those who came before". "Soulville is about, music that touches your soul, regardless of genre, hiphop sometimes gets a bad name, but anything that touches your soul is soul music: this is soul music, this is Soulville, and I hope people are fed from it."
