A Short Biography of Vinny Taylor. Early in his musical career Vinny started out as a member of “Vinny Taylor and the Revealers” and recorded two songs for producer Lawrence Lindo, better known as Jack Ruby. They were “Hard Time” and “Mount Zion”. The band made the decision to change their name to “Earth Messengers” after another group came out as the “Mystic Revealers”. Jack then produced their album “Ivory Tower” for Island Record’s Mango world music label. Shortly after the album was released Jack Ruby sadly passed away. Next on the scene was Winston Holness, better known as Niney the Observer on account he’d lost a thumb in a workshop accident. Niney produced their second album, “Reggae Time”, but at this stage they’d needed to change their name to “Jah Messengers” because, at the time, they were still contracted to Island as “Earth Messengers”. Without major sales forthcoming the band decided to go their own way and Vinny starts out on his own. From the day he was born singing was in his blood, his mother (still singing today at 89) is a soloist at church, and her father was the choir master who taught the singers about harmonies. Vinny has been influenced by many people from all over the world and from home, namely his brother Mickey Simpson. He loves Motown, Elvis, Elton John, Dusty Springfield and many of today’s new artists. But underpinning it all is his love of the music from John Holt, Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, some of the greatest reggae musicians that have ever been. Vinny’s interest in music came about at a young age when his brother, Mickey, hid his guitar from Vinny, fearing the youngster would break it. Vinny found the guitar hidden in the ceiling with music books and he never left it alone until, one day, his brother caught him. But rather than chastise the young Vinny, Mickey could see there was a determination in the new musician’s eye. So, Mickey decided to help his young brother and together they started to make songs and rehearse. The musician’s road has been a rocky one for Vinny Taylor. During his journey he has lost three brothers and his work has been sold through iTunes and other outlets without him receiving a single penny for his creativity. But, now, in 2017 he is feeling very positive. Vinny knows he is wiser having been through the journey he’s been through. And he has a message for those who will follow his path, that is – Rage against injustice; don’t allow it, never suffer it.
