Nominated to 2016 Kora Awards for Best Female Artist of Central Africa ("juste un peu") and Best Collaboration ("Tusimame"), Syssi Mananga has been praised for her original contribution to the Arican music scene throuhg prestigous awards, such as the Golden Tam Tam (Congolese Music Award) in 2013 and the RFi Couleurs Talent Prize in 2012. Her debut album "Retour aux Sources” (Back to my Roots) made her rise to prominence as it exhibited her soulful voice and strong texts. Raised by a Belgian father anda Congolese mother, Syssi Mananga grew up in-between two continents. Her music reflects this cultural mix and creatively combinesthe heritage ofhis African roots with influences from jazz, pop, salsa and reggae. With her debut album "Retour aux Sources”,released in 2013, Syssi Mananga creates a real musical melting pot, with songs in Lingala, French, English and Spanish. In it, she sings about the pride of her origins, the absurdity of war through the eyes of a child soldier, the courage to stand for freedom, the respect of the environment, as well as love and forgiveness.
