Gritty Kitty专辑介绍:by Jason MacNeilWith four musicians and all contributing to the songwriting process, the end result could be a completely pureed idea that falls flat or what is presented to the listener here. Resembling a myriad of influences and styles, from St. Germain on the bouncy but brief "Reprise" to a tranquil New Pornographers, the quartet have all the skills needed to pull it off. The problem is how long it takes for the band to find their sonic strive, tending to become bogged down in sweet melodic pop time after time. "Motor Unit" is an excellent example, despite the smile-inducing horns during the song's bridge. There appears to be a turning point on the lengthy "Little Neutrino," which signals a new and greater direction, but it's far too short-lived. "Wear Your Voice" is extremely out of place here, but is perhaps the best song in the almost dozen titles with a driving, minimalist tempo over some lilting deliveries. Culminating in lush pop tracks, including "Elevator Drop" and "Sunday Midnight," the group finds their footing just a bit too late. This is an album with some merit to it, unfortunately just not a consistency which would enhance it tremendously.
