The Dirty Birds' debut album, How the Cause Became the Cure, is a serious statement of arrival. This genre-defying, remarkably diverse collection of songs is nonetheless tied together by the strong personalities of its creators. By turns whimsical, anxious, dreamy and mournful, lead singer Jared Saltiel's songs are perfectly complimented by Greg Hornby's virtuosic electric guitar-work and the band's dynamic, live interplay. Lush orchestration and socially conscious lyrics carry the album to an emotional catharsis that is at once overwhelming and beautiful, tragic and yet deeply hopeful.
