简介
Writing music is nothing new. As a matter of fact, every original idea has already been conceived and displayed in some fashion or another. The same idea applies to all other art forms. Artists simply attempt to put their own spin on these ideas. Countless musicians have taken their region’s unique traits and internalized them to forge their works. The members of Modern Rifles aren’t new to this process either. After gaining inspiration from each member’s respective hometowns, the four young lads had little choice but to inadvertently represent where they came from in their writing. Represent them they did and somehow, without destroying the flavor of each, they created a new sound employing the depth and dimensionality awarded by such different individuals. Rewind to 2000, with all members living in separate states - Dan Deaton-Vocals/guitar (Shreveport, LA), Daryl Thompson - Bass (Outer Banks, NC), Brian Garbark - Drums/vocals (Pittsburgh, PA), and Jon Fong Guitar/vocals (San Diego, CA). Now fast-forward to 2006, when they all eventually lived and met in San Diego, forming Modern Rifles. After more than a few drinks and lively exchanges of hometown stories, they began to work on a batch of songs that would ultimately be their first demo. The songs on the demo were full of texture and contrast, employing relentless power and sneaky riff-age from start to finish. Modern Rifles’ sound balks at the established conventions and preconceived limitations of the so-called indie and math rock genres and endless sub-genres using multiple approaches to songwriting, rejecting the possibility of being pigeonholed. Since the release of the demo and the full length, Modern Rifles have played with a variety of touring bands across the country, making friends and continuing to employ a DIY ethic along the way. Their live sound delivers a healthy dose of honest energy and finesse, appealing to listeners from every possible musical background.
