简介
When imagining what real Aussie Indigenous rock looks like, Scott Darlow should be what comes to mind. For more than ten years, Darlow has been one of the country's hardest working and most successful independent artists. Scott Darlow is undeniably a fixture of the Australian music landscape. The versatile singer/guitarist/didgeridoo player has released 5 albums and is currently working on a sixth. He has toured Australia more times than he can remember, driving from Melbourne to Perth and back several times, from Adelaide to Darwin and back through QLD and NSW 3 times, and has done the east coast run countless times. Each tour earning him new fans while satisfying the fans made on earlier tours. In 2016, Darlow is poised to add yet another landmark album to his catalogue with his 6th studio offering, Sorry. A lyrically emotive, musically rocking album that is sure to add further lustre to Scott Darlow's already brilliant output. Since storming onto the indi rock scene with 2003 debut Be With You, the singer-songwriter from Yorta Yorta country has been a mainstay of the Indigenous and indi music industry. He has increasingly endeared himself to the rock and pop scenes, too. A famously down-to-earth performer, Darlow's music and profile has seen him become a World Vision artist, and he is known for using his infectious charm far and wide, from the biggest festivals to the smallest club crowds to raise awareness and funds for World Vision Australia's Indigenous program. Darlow owes a good deal to his enviable early education. Darlow's parents saw to it that the budding star grew up listening to the evergreen greats from the Beatles to Fleetwood Mac to Dire Straits and Johnny Cash. Add to that a youthful love of artists from Hunters and Collectors to Midnight Oil, and an agile musical mind was born. ʻThose early experiences of music: they are the gneiss of your musical being and soul,ʼ Darlow says. Of course, you canʼt have soul without rhythm. Beginning his musical trajectory at the tender age of 5, Darlow took up the cornet and played in an adult brass band at his parents Salvation Army Church by the age of 8. ʻI love Gospel music – especially its harmonies,ʼ Darlow says, ʻI imagine when heaven will be full of angels singing ridiculous harmonies!.ʼ A never take no for an answer attitude has seen Darlow tour the USA more than 20 times an a totally independent artist. Driving from New York to LA playing shows along the way. From San Diego to Seattle, from Seattle to Las Vegas. He has also toured Asia more than 25 times, playing all over Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Macau, with new tours currently being booked for Japan and Korea. Boldness has its rewards. To date, Scott Darlow has sold more than 50,000 albums worldwide. The first single released from Darlow's fifth album, "Sorry" was a rocking cover of the Goanna hit from 1982, Solid Rock, that original author and voice of the iconic track Shane Howard sung with Darlow on his album as a duet. The video for the single is currently being filmed with the help of friends such as ex AFL champions Anthony Koutoufidies and Robert Dipierdomenico, singers Ash Grunwald, Fatai and John Butler, Kasey Chambers and Troy Cassar Daley. Solid Rock was released to radio in Australia and New Zealand on January 26 2016, and was subsequently added to a multitude of radio stations all over the two countries. The video, which was shared by rock station Triple M, went viral, being viewed hundreds of thousands of times. Scott Darlow often tours solo, with just his six and twelve string guitars, a didgeridoo and a loop pedal. He also tours with a band which consists of drums, bass and another guitar. Darlow believes this flexibility allows him to play to more people than being tied in to one or the other.
