Mick Fitzgerald, Irish actor and musician was born in Dublin in the 1950s into a family of performers. His father, Jimmy who died when Mick was 14, eldest of 6, was a fine singer who performed in Dublin. His mother Anne was a piano player and singer who performed on Irish Radio in the 30s and 40s. Both grandmothers played concertina. In his 20s Mick studied Speech and Drama in Dublin briefly with the great Irish actor Ray McAnnally (who co-starred with Robert De Niro in “The Mission”) and Deirdre O'Connell (wife of Luke Kelly of the “Dubliners”), as well as Pegeen Coleman renowned amateur director. However most of his earlier life was spent in journalism and music. Mick Fitzgerald is an actor, musician and writer.He worked for the ‘Irish Press’ from 1972-1978 and 1984-1986 and still writes occasionally for the Irish Independent. His fondest memories were interviews with Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry and P.L. Travis the author of “Mary Poppins” with whom he shared a correspondence for many years. He is also a prolific short-story writer and was short-listed for the prestigious “Hennessy Award” in Ireland in 1986. He went back into full-time Drama by accident in 2000 when he appeared as a musician in an Arthouse movie called “How Harry Became a Tree”. He got his “Equity Card” back and since then has appeared many times on Irish and British TV as well as many Art-House movies, one of which “Death’s Mailing” came second in the world renowned “Galway Film Fleadh”. In 2006 it came first in the “Best Short” category in Rome and in Cyprus. Mick was singled out for his performance in the “Cyprus Film Festival”. As a musician he formed the group “Tipsy Sailor” (who can be seen performing on the site along with Mick being interviewed by the great Ciaran MacMahuna). He then went on to play with the “Wild Geese” a group renowned in Europe. His second CD “Damage Limitation” was released in late January 2009 and is distributed by “Claddagh Records” as is his first one “Light Sleeper” which was very favourably received. His third CD "Streetwise" was released in July 2012 and is selling well.But also in July 2011 he departed from the norm and released a CD called "The Enchanted Lake".On "The Enchanted Lake" he reads from Grimms' collection of Irish Folk Legends with Musical Accompliment.He also sings in Irish. His first collection of short stories "Session" was published in 2010.
