简介

In 2006 Donald Malloy made his move out to the east coast to truly begin his career as a professional musician. Bringing with him many musical experiences on the Cleveland jazz scene he was ready to take on the world. Music was flowing in his heart and he had to find an outlet. Then in February 2007 he landed a steady gig at The Garage in New York City and Sight was born. Donald was experimenting with the music of his youth and combining it with jazz. Growing up he would listen to groups such as The Fugees, Arrested Development, Michael Jackson, Tupac, and Busta Rhymes to name a few. Also, he was brought up in the Ifa tradition, so he was surrounded by Orisha(Yoruba Deities) music. With all of this floating around Sight began to develop its voice. Sight combines the melodies of Orisha music, jazz harmony, and rock/soul grooves. The band is hard hitting and lively. The most common statement after a show is “I‘ve never heard anything like this. You guys are amazing.” Guitarist Seth Johnson creates an atmospheric environment that just floats around the rest of the band and then intensely drives directly into the soul. Drummer Kassa Overall gives the band that “push” with his wide pocket grooves and polyrhythmic interactions. Nimrod Speaks A.K.A Soul Bass then lays it all down on bass with his interestingly soulful bass lines pushing each solo to new heights. Finishing off with Donald Malloy’s pyrotechnically soulful solos creates an extremely high energy expressive experience. In 2008 Sight Recorded its debut album Spirituality. Miles Willis of WPFW, Washington D.C had this to say: “Donald Malloy is a young artist who has successfully navigated his way through his influences and arrived upon his own sound with poise and self-assurance. Indeed, Spirituality is an apt title for his debut recording as it imbued with warmth of expression that is deeply personal and sincere.” Since then Malloy began to tour with Sight in cities throughout America and they released their second album, “The Mothers,” also known as “Iyaami” in Yoruba, in March of 2011. The band continues to grow and rise to new heights. Onward and upward is where they are going, and there is no telling how high they will soar.
