简介

Milkweed was formed in 1969 and toured throughout New England and the Southeast. Founding members were pianist Norm Zamcheck (Stormin' Norman), who later began a very successful collaboration with torch singer Suzy Williams; guitarist Mat Kastner, also a member of Randy Burns & the Skydog Band and later Washboard Slim and the Bluelights; bassist/guitarist Reid Spencer, who with Kastner and singer Karen Eisner formed Karen & the Pistons, which toured New England until 1975; and drummer Thom Macdonald, who subsequently played with Karen & the Pistons. Also appearing on the Milkweed album "Midgets Stand Tall" are pianist J.P. Connell, who joined Milkweed as lead singer in 1970; guitarist Pat Alger, who later wrote four No. 1 singles for Garth Brooks and one for Trisha Yearwood; and bassist John Daniel, who subsequently played with Karen & the Pistons, Livingston Taylor, Tom Rush, the Estes Boys and Northern Lights. Alger is the primary vocalist on the single "Granma Country," which also features vocal contributions from Connell, Spencer and Daniel. The song "Granma Country" was written by Reid Spencer during the wee hours in a communal house in Atlanta, GA.
