A Black Day is a collaboration of emcees from a few different Colorado Springs hip-hop groups including; MILOGIC from the SoundPowered Engine Crew, HoTT from the Audible Crew, JayOin from The Mad Trees Crew and Kevin Mitchell from the Fidel RedStar Crew. The group’s aim is to convey that no matter what you rep, there’s always a way to work together for the greater good. In their case, the greater good is a d**e album with substance in every track. The sound they curated is reminiscent of a mix between early ’90s true school hip-hop and creatively selected rhythm & blues vocal samples. Aside from their substance and sound infusions, the most intriguing angle they worked came in the form of each member’s solo track. ABD let each member’s creative juices flow with a track named after them. There are four tracks in total that reflect this concept; “Mr. Mitchell,” “Mr. Shaw,” “Mr. Stevens,” and “Mr. Wilson.” While “Mr. Mitchell” adds a twinge of bouncy bluegrass, “Mr. Shaw” has a sound that is more laid-back and smooth. Despite the variations in the individual tracks, the album as a whole in incredibly cohesive. Overall though, Undercast is full of positive influence, witty rhymes, and A1 beats.
