简介
In 2009 the Riverman moved into a small house in Winter Park, Florida, and began the first in a long series of recording sessions in preparation for this album. "Vagabonding" is the product of thousands of hours of painstaking recording and production, but the finished product is a healthy detour from the melancholy introspection of Riverman's previous album, "The Slow Demise of the Pathetic Fallacy." From the first notes of "Armchair Philosophy," with its self-deprecating and almost humorous look at the past, the Riverman bids goodbye to the old and hello to the new. At it's core, this is a travel album and each song is filled with references to landmarks from around Florida, as it winds its way up and down the East Coast. "The Ghosts of Mal Pais" is a noticeable geographic detour which breaths with the exotic pulse of the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica, but Riverman quickly moves back home and the rest of the album possesses a distinctly Americana feel. Now be prepared... Some of the stops along this journey are as warm and inviting as a roadside B&B, but Riverman almost dares the listener to spend one night in the spooky and purgatorial town of "Fox Hollow" where "faces hang on the windowsills all the time..." The album hits its zenith during the swirling choruses of the album's title track "Vagabonding." As the multi-layered vocals and jangly guitars fade out, Riverman subverts the expectations of the listener by offering up one last sentimental goodbye. The closing song, "Until We Meet Again," explores the melancholy side of prolonged travel and poigntently ends with the line "You could have left a note..." This album is a mature and wonderfully executed work from a predominately unknown artist. In it you will find hints of a variety of musical influences, but all the while the Riverman manages to retain a highly original sound and style. His next album is currently in the works, and it promises to up the ante from "Vagabonding" and push his musical abilities into a new realm. It has been a long awaited release in his small network of fans, but it will be well worth the wait.
