简介
In 1997, I lived in the deep suburbs of Atlanta, GA in the basement of a friend’s house for $100 a month. The room had fluorescent lighting, no windows, a garage-sale-bought couch whose style can be most aptly described as “country”, a mattress on the floor with sheets on it - sometimes, an incredibly heavy wood-paneled TV, a Nintendo 64, and two ferrets that smelled like… ferrets. The house - too far away from the city to be considered remotely hip, it served as the background for a very formative time in my life. The songs from Fortunate Poets were written in this fluorescent-lit room, and they echo the indigested, immature, and often heavy-handed nature of my young self. At the same time, when I listen to this record now (which is about every 5 years), I can hear why I kept doing this. I can hear the beginnings of something vital and a thread that connects The Fortunate Poets to the music I am trying to make now, and the life I am attempting to lead. I hope this record makes you smile like you might when nudged by an old memory... That's what it does for me.
