Canadian born Dutch Cellist Pamela Smits and Dutch Pianist Maarten den Hengst met for the first time in 2004 during a live radio broadcast in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam (NL), where they were both presenting their own first CD. A few years on, after a period of working and traveling abroad, they met up again in the Netherlands and began working together. From the start is was clear that they shared a great musical affinity. Now, many concerts later they present their first joint CD, composed of many smaller gems from the rich Cello/Piano repertoire. Pamela Smits has captivated audiences throughout the world with her communicative impassioned musicianship and commanding technique. Her repertoire reflects her broad musical interests and encompasses works from the Baroque and Romantic periods to contemporary music. She has toured extensively throughout Europe and elsewhere, performing in the United States, South America, the Antilles, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Israel and Finland, and played recitals in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Meistersaal in Berlin and at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. As a soloist she has appeared with orchestras on both sides of the Atlantic, performing cello concertos by C.Ph.E. Bach, Boccherini, Händel, Haydn, Hans Kox, Schumann and Tchaikovsky’s Rococovariations.
