51:21 is a collection of an unreleased single (Too Much Speed), a re-issue of Screen Vinyl Image’s debut ep (The Midnight Sun), and a live recording done this past October of a unique 30 minute instrumental set. This is the first self-released album by the band, and this collection will appeal to anyone familiar with the band’s past catalogue and live performances. Side A opens with Too Much Speed, a single from 2010 that never saw a release. The B-Side, Stay Asleep, is the original mix of the track, an alternate version appears on 2011’s Strange Behavior. Side A closes with a re-issue of The Midnight Sun, Screen Vinyl Image’s debut EP from early 2007. It introduced a band coming off the road of shoegaze (Alcian Blue), and exploring new territories of science fiction, electronica, hip hop and psychedelia. Side B is 51:21, is a live recording from October 2012 where SVI remixes their music into a 30 minute instrumental performance using synths, samplers, oscillators, and guitars. In this performance, the band performs in front of a projection of Carnival of Souls, starting precisely at the time 51:21.
