简介

After his debut album “Partes de un todo” released by the Lovethechaos label and three years of a hazardous life full and “transcendental” changes and new experiences in the musical domain -especially as a lead singer for the Spanish Indie band Anorak-, David Jornet is back to the electronic scene. A life cycle has come to its end. The title of the album does make real sense since David likes to structure his life in cycles (“Ciclos”). This new work is spattered with all kind of references about his personal exile, and about the world and the people who lives in. Produced by Moisés Martí at the Dark Dreams Factory Studio in Barcelona, who collaborates on the ending track “Decadence”, “Ciclos” has nothing to do with his precedent work “Partes de un todo”. In a certain way, the elements that made up the particular IDM style of the first album, now definitely sound more free and more open to multiple influences, the ones that shape David’s universe of sounds: from cosmic musicians to post-rock, from concrete music to Radiohead. In “Ciclos”, Strange2 does not try to hide himself behind any stylistic excuse and that seems to be definitely good for him and for the audience who listen to his music. On the other hand, there are some elements repeated regarding his first record that makes his creative personality appearing much more consolidated this time: intellectual references -Duchamp talks about the close relationship between art and the spectator (“Arte y Espectador”)-; the use of sad cyclical melodies (“Squares”), some times lost-in-thoughts, some others in the search of open spaces, like for example in “Jemmapes”; or break beats we can also find in abstract hip hop (“Jemmapes” again) and industrial music (“Postales”); or some trotting free-flowing basses tribute to German electronic bands from the beginning of the 90s (“La primera impresión”). Darker and thicker than his first album and definitely closer to the music that David’s dreams to play when he’s composing, “Ciclos” is not easy-listening but a grateful album; the soundtrack of a life in which all cycles we might live had the aim of a dreamy and neoclassical beauty. As if wanting to cast robot images over Damasco tapestry…
