A couple of years ago I was introduced to a young lady trumpeter Elizabeth Peroutka, who had recorded two pieces that I had originally recorded many years prior. They were: “Evergreen” beautifully arranged by long-time friend and ex-Basie trumpeter Bob Ojeda, and “Always and Forever,” Pat Metheny’s beautiful and heartfelt tribute to his parents, arranged by Bob Curnow. I was quite impressed by Beth’s ability to get through the Evergreen chart as it requires a decent set of chops and ability in the upper register. And then to hear her interpretation of Pat’s melody and Roy Hargrove’s improvisation on flugelhorn was also very enjoyable. She is a powerhouse indeed! She is joined on this production by her highly skilled trombone-playing husband, Aric Schneller who also does some scat singing in the solo sections of the charts. And Aric and Beth do a vocal duo of interest too. It is her singing debut on record!!! It is always nice to welcome another excellent trumpet player to our ranks and this will prove to be a noteworthy maiden voyage recording. I’m certain all listeners will be impressed as I was.
