简介
Crusades are post hardcore. Since forming in September 2011, they have already had airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Scotland and Amazing Radio! Speaking about the motivations of Crusades, singer/guitarist Steven Murray says ”Lyrically the songs are generally about what I hate most at that point in time. From religion, banal chat from bigoted football fans, technology taking over relationships and especially the cliched subculture of hardcore groups with album artworks including forestry, stags heads and sweatshirts with hipster triangles. That is however secondary to crusades as we're very much a "music" band. Vocals come second to the huge riffs and incoherent screaming. It's more about intensity and the awesome visual spectacle than what were trying to preach. Not to say that doesn't matter. “ This summer has seen the band headline the T-Break stage at this year’s T in the Park Festival in Balado. They’ve also played Liverpool Sound City Festival at the O2 Academy infront of 1,250 people during the summer with ‘Don Broco’ and ‘Lower Than Atlantis’. They were picked by Jamie Reid, renowned punk artist who designed the original Sex Pistols artwork to perform at one of his exhibitions in Leeds. Having gained an impressive live reputation which was cemented during their debut show, guitarist Mark Higgins sliced into his pinky finger to the ligament, yet continued with the set, spraying not only his guitar but also most of the front row with his blood. As Murray explains ”Playing live is why we are in this band. Recording music is fun and it will be great for people to own our music, but our heart lies in playing live and to tour as much as possible. We dont care about "making it" as long people come to shows and wreck their neck head banging and have fun then were happy. Our Shows are total energy, flying body's, a constant and gutteral vocal battle between Steven and mark and a thunderous rhythm section that keeps everything in check while the carnage ensues.“ Their debut EP ‘Golden Throats’ has been recorded with the talented Bruce Rintoul (Twin Atlantic, The Ting Tings, Simple Minds) and will be released on the 10th September. Steven remarks about the band’s time with Bruce as he says ”When coming to the decision of who to record with we knew we wanted it to be intense, visceral, raw and as close to our live sound as possible. We went with Bruce Rintoul knowing that he could provide a simple yet effective recording, giving the listener a very much live experience when listening to the record. Your not going to hear anything on the EP that you won't hear live. We feel a lot of bands cannot back up their recorded sound live which is an obvious disappointment. ”
