Singer songwriter James Nighthawk presents his début release, "The Twilight Sessions". Working for the last decade as producer and arranger for hire, this is his first full length LP, a labour of love recorded and produced by the artist himself, showing his skill with real, organic sounding production. Playing and arranging nearly every instrument on the album, he is an old school writer, taking influences from Dylan, Joni Mitchell and David Bowie, through modern artists such as Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling. Each song has a clear feel, a meaning. No lyric is simply throwaway. On "Not the One" James speaks of the end of a relationship with the kindness we all aspire to when things go wrong. "Don't Give Your Love Out" talks of the value of emotional connection between friends and lovers. On "Ghost Town" he talks of the serenity and loneliness of single life. But there is a light-hearted side. "Ftw" pokes knowing fun at web culture with cheeky references in every line. And "Crystal Ball" asks us to look inwards instead of outwards at quick fix culture. Acoustic, soul, folk and rock merge throughout to create a sound that changes but works as a whole, showing his inspirations but creating an album that is still new and unique. An album of stories and emotions, with a constant theme of real, honest musicianship.
