简介
Tingly is a Mike Mattingly musical project. The latest album is “Free Mangos! Only 25 Cents!” The music on this album is an eclectic mix of tunes some where between striped down two piece songs with multi-vocal parts with a tropical sound, country and americana to 6 part horn arrangements featuring grammy award winning and nominated horn players. These songs have elements of cajun, funk, mariachi, soul and ska. The songs are pop rooted with a three piece guitar, bass and drums foundation, some expanded by multiple guitars, keyboard/piano and xylophone as well as other various percussion. The album is a relationship trip through extreme highs to as low as you can go and up again. All the while maintaining Mike Mattingly’s whimsical view on the human condition. Mike Mattingly initiated his career in his garage as a founding member of West Coast ska band, Skankin’ Pickle, which toured all 48 states in the Continental US, Hawai’i, Canada and Mexico. For five years he toured as bass player and singer of Skankin’ Pickle. He was also one of two main song writers recording on legendary third wave ska albums, Skafunkrastapunk, and Skankin’ Pickle Fever. During this time he also joined second wave English ska band Bad Manners as bass player for their US, Canada and Mexico tour. After departing from Skankin’ Pickle, Mattingly formed Neosoreskin (1994-2000). Writing and recording three albums in just five years this experimental band was an exercise in controlled chaos. Its big band arrangements featured a four-to six-piece horn section and a three-piece rhythm section, which could transition through various musical styles in a matter of just a few bars. Neosoreskin took its skavant-garde sound to the West Coast, sharing the stage with some of the biggest bands in the world during that time like No Doubt, Foo Fighters, Fishbone and Moby. During this period Mattingly could also be found on stage playing trombone and percussion with hip-hop band Willie’s Conception. Mattingly has used these experiences to shape the unique nature of this most recent production. Tingly first arrived on the scene in 2005 releasing the hillbilly-hawaiian album “Beautiful View”. Due to an accident as a chimney sweep, Mattingly was forced to put down his beloved bass guitar for a few years and so began the mellow guitar stylings that highlighted the Beautiful View album. Mattingly took a break from playing music to raise his young children but continued writing. “Free Mangos! Only 25 Cents!” Is a culmination of all the experiences of this time period. Relax and Enjoy.
