简介
Jeremiah Birnbaum is a two-headed coin: On one side, he's a sweet-voiced, "rootsy, soulful troubadour" (Time Out, London) and folk fingerpicker, who's been the recipient of several ASCAP songwriting awards, has been featured at the Club Passim Campfire, and tours acoustically to listening rooms all over America. On the other, he's a gritty, sonofagun Telecaster player and lead singer fronting the Ramblers (whiskey-fired roots rock ala The Band and Little Feat), featuring his signature bent-note licks and slide work in their unique brand of "raucous alt-country" (New York Magazine), who released their first album to a standing ovation opening up for the late Levon Helm at his Midnight Ramble. But while most of the last few years Jeremiah's focused on The Ramblers and other heavier projects, the coin has flipped. Inspired by Bob Dylan's early Columbia recordings with John Hammond, Jeremiah just recorded "Lucky", his first solo acoustic LP. "Lucky" was recorded in a mere four hours, and with the exception of one track is comprised of completely live-in-the-studio takes, simply Jeremiah and his acoustic guitar. Jeremiah will be touring behind "Lucky" through 2013. A multi-instrumentalist, Jeremiah plays banjo, mandolin, bass guitar, and lap steel as well. He can be heard on many record albums and his slide work was recently featured in a promotion for EPIX Network. Jeremiah's music has been critically lauded and shows recommended by publications including Time Out, New York Magazine, the Village Voice, NuvoWeekly (Indianapolis), Illinois Entertainer, Cincinnati CityBeat, and AM New York. Venues Jeremiah's played on the East Coast include Brooklyn Bowl, Club Passim, Joe's Pub, Mercury Lounge, Living Room and Rockwood Music Hall. Recent showcases include CMJ Music Marathon and the Great South Bay Music Festival, and he has opened for or appeared with such artists as Suzanne Vega, Adam Levy, Heartless Bastards, Brian Stoltz (The Meters), Will Kimbrough, James Maddock, Greensky Bluegrass, John Medeski, Kent Burnside, Wakey!Wakey!, Sarah Lee Guthrie, HarperBlynn, Gordon Gano, Umphrey's McGee, Antje Duvekot, and Railroad Earth.
