Jessica Star, the Fae Rock Songstress, and her band bring music to enchant the modern and soulful tribe of Earth. Drums, bass, cello and guitar weave with Jessica’s compelling vocals and original music to uplift the spirit. Jessica Star has just released her new album,"Mystical Creature". 13 personal songs produced by Winter, coproduced by Jessica Star, and featuring her bassist Joseph Blackfeather. The musicians on this album are Jessica Star on lead and harmony vocals and guitars, Joseph Blackfeather on five string bass guitar, Mark Abbott on drums, Winter on guitars, Gregg Tilles on guitar, Betsy Tinney on cello, Diana Rowan on harp, Kymberly Jackson on flute, Sharon Knight and Kellianna on harmony vocals and, Gary Haggerty on violin. "I'd like to share with you what inspired the songs on my new album," Mystical Creature"! 1. Black Bird~ I was living in Brooklyn, NY in a garden apartment and had created a beautiful urban garden from what was previously a disregarded trash heap. I was looking out the window and there I saw a beautiful black bird on a tall metal plant hook. It was preening and drying its feathers in the sun. I had a bird bath in the garden also so I thought it must have used that first. As I watched, (knowing that if I looked away it would probably be gone the next time I looked) I saw the sun reflecting off of the water on its feathers. This was enough fuel for my song! 2. The River~ I was living in Northern California and was at a Halloween party in Point Arena, on the coast. A local man told me I should check out open tuning in D. Another friend of mine responded," You can't push the river" when I was telling her about all the things I wanted to do with my music in my life. The bridge of this song was inspired by a song I heard by Gabrielle Roth a very long time ago... 3. Wild Purple Irises~ From the same garden that birthed Black Bird, I was digging around in the autumn when we first moved in and there were these beautiful flowers coming up everywhere! I didn't know what they were at the time but when I went back inside, I kept seeing them in my mind and I knew I had to write a song. 4. Spirit~ This song came to me when I was about 20. It was a channelled song and one of the very first songs I ever "heard". 5. Mother~ This song is about and for my mom. She passed back in 1989 when I was 19 and living in Portland, Oregon. Her death marked the beginning of my musical journey. After she passed, I heard songs very clearly in my head that were in my voice but original, unwritten. Those were my first songs. 6. Red Phoenix Aflame~ I heard the melody of the verse of this song in a dream when I was visiting Truth or Consequences, NM. The dream was of three muses on stage at an outdoor festival. When I woke, I recorded the melody and then wrote the rest of the song that day. 7. The Ocean~ I wrote this song in Bodega Bay, CA, in my VW bus while watching the ocean. There was an older woman next to me in her car and when I finished most of the parts, I asked her if she'd like to hear it. She was taken aback a little bit but she got in my bus and I sang and played her my new song. She was crying. She told me it was the anniversary of her husband's passing and that it meant alot to her that I had shared my song with her. Listen to the words. I may have channelled some of her reality into this song. I hope she gets a chance to hear this version. I remade this song which I recorded as a solo piece on my "Solo" album. I felt this song really deserved a chance to fly in the world with some amazing musicians playing on it! 8. Roll Under~ This was also written about Bodega Bay, CA and the coast line there. A surfer friend of mine told me how he'd been surfing and got held down at the bottom over and over by the waves. He had to relax his body and not fight to get to the surface to breath, just let his wetsuit float him up. He would get to the surface, exhale, inhale, and get pounded again down to the bottom of the ocean over and over... 9. First Day of Fall~ I was walking down the street in Brooklyn and one single brown leaf fell in front of me... 10. Firewalk~ I was visiting a friend in Maui, Hawaii and took the culmination of the experiences I'd had there and wrote this one. Again, this one was recorded as a solo piece on my "Dragon's Lair" album. I wanted this one to rock with a full band! 11. Wesa~ This song is dedicated to Spook. Spook, wherever you are, you were so gorgeous and fierce. I just had to immortalize you in song! 12. Arizona~ This one was written shortly after I moved to NYC and was living on the upper west side. I had spent a year living in my motorhome and traveling around Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, and California.. This is about that time. 13. Everlasting Life~ I wrote this in the morning while staying at a friends cabin near Fort Bragg, CA. My life at the time was filled with alot of meditation and spiritual work. This song is the third remake on the album. You can hear the earlier version as a solo piece on my album," Solo". I hope you love my songs and the instrumentation. This is my life's work. These are my stories and this is the sharing I bring to you from my soul. ~ Jessica Star" The 2013 Jessica Star tour included FaerieWorlds in Oregon, FaerieCon East, Spoutwood Fairie Festival in PA, The Maryland Faerie Festival, The New York Faerie Festival, Wicked Faire, and The New Deal Café in MD.
