Celebrations is a book of 101 duets that I wrote and published in 2008. The idea to write a duet book was inspired when a high school student emailed me to say he was doing one of my old duets for ensemble contest, but he needed a contrasting movement to go with it. I am always honored when people choose to perform my music. Even though my compositions are performed around the world, I still consider it an honor when they choose my stuff when they could have chosen from thousands of other composers' music. For that reason, I volunteered to compose a contrasting work for him. I enjoyed writing the new duet so much that I decided to continue writing more. At first, I was only writing for fun. But as time passed, I began getting ideas about duet book projects. There were five or six different projects and I couldn't make up my mind which one to do. So I ended up writing all of them and combining them into one book. Celebrations is that book. This album is a recording of me playing all of those duets. I've been working on this project for over five years now and it's such a thrill to see it finally come to fruition. The biggest comments I get about the duets is that they are musical. Even though they are stylistically diverse, and cover a wide spectrum of dissonance pallets, each and every one of the duets has a musical story to tell.
